Beverly Hills- That’s Where I Want 2 Be

Dear Fashionistas,
Since I’m leaving for over a month soon, I needed to run a few errands on Rodeo. Is it even called an errand when you get to shop on Rodeo? I don’t think so. I ran by Chanel to pick up a bag that was getting repaired, and of course I could not resist browsing the shoe collection. This was probably the worst idea ever since I’ve never gone in that shoe department and left with an empty bag. Ahhh so much thetemptation, at least I got a cute, new pair of boots out of it. Rest in peace retirement.
For my casual outing, I was excited to wear my new wedges that I designed in Hong Kong. There are little shops in some of the malls that you can go into, design your own shoes, anything you could ever dream of, and they will deliver them to your hotel room. I love my new pair, and surprise, they are even comfortable! Why doesn’t LA have this yet? I played off the white/black colors of my new heels with a white tank, black cut-offs, and this edgy, double buckled belt. The Chanel shopping bags were the perfect touch to tie the look together;)

A Hectic Hiatus

Dear Fashionistas,

It has been a crazy week so far! I found out that on August 2 I am leaving LA for six weeks! What??! Didn’t I just come home? I am super excited about my destinations though. My first stop on my six week journey, is St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Most people have no clue where this tiny Carribean island is. It’s not flashy and crowded like the Bahamas or Aruba. But this island is just as luxury and I can’t wait to tell you more about it (once I know more about it too, lol). So getting my house ready as I’m about to travel internationally for 6 weeks, while three family friends are visiting, unpacking from the last month excursion and packing for the next, all while being a tour guide at the same time…..it’s crazy! Well it wouldn’t be a week at home without a few disasters.;) I haven’t had much time to post this past week, but I can promise that will not be a problem soon.

I knew I had a long day ahead of me, consisting of passports, visas, CVS runs, and being Malibu’s best tour guide. So I went with this comfy, loungy dress from Riller and Fount. I threw some heels, my Never Full bag, and Dior sunnies on as I was walking out the door.

Florals

Dear Fashionistas,

I’ve been having a few friends stay with me for the week, and for their first full “LA day” I wanted to show them a good time! Being from out of town, they requested that I plan a day around what I like to do for a casual Saturday. The first thing that popped in my mind, especially for tourists, was the Ivy. It’s great atmosphere, food, location, and the paparazzi constantly snapping away, gave the glamorous vibe I wanted my guests to experience. We sat outside on the patio under all the white umbrellas, surrounded by the bright, floral patterns and flowers.

I just love the warm, quaint atmosphere of the Ivy in Beverly Hills. But  loved the red velvet cake and sorbet, lol!

For our next activity, I took them shopping at the Grove. It has a bunch of cute boutiques, huge department stores, a diverse farmers market, and is so clean and luxury. My personal favorites are Topshop, Paige, and Barneys, but there are so many more great options too. It was the perfect pick for everyone.

I have been looking for a perfect 75 degree day to pull this skirt set out, and since it was such a beautiful day, I finally got to wear it out! It’s bright, floral patterns brought out all the summer vibes. I even color coordinated with the Ivy!

Choked Up

Dear Fashionistas,

I am so excited to be back in LA! I missed the beautiful ocean as I’m driving down Pacific Coast Highway, seeing all the cute dogs being walked along the Santa Monica sidewalks, the LA sunset, but most of all my friends who I haven’t seen in over a month. Ahhh it feels so good to be back, besides the jet lag and constant/never-ending headache. But the sleepless nights are well worth it. We got in from our long flight in the afternoon, but we weren’t even that tired because it was already the next day in Singapore. So we decided to go for a casual dinner to Sur in Beverly Hills. I’d somewhat forgotten what American food was like, lol, so it tasted even more amazing! Since my brain decided to stop working the moment we made our connection to Hong Kong and were on the flight to LA, I just threw a comfortable, casual look together. I love the deep blue color of the top (in stores now) against the black and leather denim, choker, and bag. I made it a little more girly with a layered gold necklace. Sorry, I didn’t have enough time to take a lot of pictures!

My Original

Dear Fashionistas,

When every little girl wanted to be a princess, the next Hannah Montana, a cowgirl, or a ballerina, I wanted to be a stylist and fashion designer. I was even Rachel Zoe for Halloween when I was eleven years old. That’s before she had her reality show on Bravo! None of my elementary friends knew who she was, let alone ever heard of a stylist! But I was the exception, always obsessed with stilettos, jewelry, and dresses. Basically my bank account was doomed from day one. So when I came to Hong Kong, one of the top things to do was to get custom clothes made. However, it is more accustomed to men’s clothing- particularly suits. But I found one tailor willing to make almost anything I wanted. This. Was. A. Dream. Come. True. She had so many dresses, blazers, blouses, etc to choose the for the template of the various pieces. She said her average customer just picked one of her original templates and requested in made in their favorite color, I was not the average client. I ended up getting four dresses made- none of which the tailor said she had ever made or seen anything like them. I took a lot of time in her studio designing, picking out fabrics and colors, and trying on a bunch of of different sample to see which best I liked best.

It was amazing how fast and easy everything was. To design and fit four dresses from scratch took less than two hours, and they were all delivered to my hotel two days later. It actually came this morning so I was so excited that I could wear it in time for our last dinner in Hong Kong. We went to the restuarant on the 103rd floor, which had panoramic views of the entire city.

More pics of my new pieces coming soon!

Louis Vuitton, the Island

Dear Fashionistas,

Singapore is one of my favorite cities I have ever been too, for many reasons. The first, is my hotel. Staying at a Four Seasons Hotel is always luxury, but this particular city hotel was even better than most of their resorts I have been to. Twenty stories high, we were situated on the nineteenth floor. From our living room area, we could see most of Singapore’s modern skyscrapers and two of the four hotel tennis courts. I thought this view was stunning during the day, but just wait till dusk.
IMG_5311
Not only were the views incredible, but our room was too. It had the classic luxury touch, with two large living room/media areas, a kitchenette, a dining table, and two master bed and bathrooms. When booking the Four Seasons Hotel, we knew what a nice room we had, but what we were not prepared for was the service. Staying at so many hotels, even though the rooms may be nicer than yours at home, after a while you still get homesick. The best thing about staying in a Four Seasons hotel, for me personally, is I never feel far away from home. The second my car pulled in the driveway, my door was opened for me and I was greeted by name. As I walked into the bustling lobby, a staff member was waiting for me and whisked me to the front desk to check-in. As I was completing the check-in process the manager came and introduced himself to me. He then escorted me to my room, and gave me the rundown about all of the hotel and room amenities.  After unpacking a bit of my extremely huge, body-bag styled suitcases, I went down to the concierge desk. Of course there too, I was welcomed by name. The concierge clerk told me which malls to go to, which sites to see, and which restaurants to eat. Every recommendation I was told was spot on. The ION Orchard, an eight story mall filled with all of a shopaholics hopes and dreams was less than a five minute walk from the desk where I was standing. Then the Shoppes at the Marina Bay Sands hotel were not far away either, but had higher quantity of the top designer brands than the ION. The most insane difference between both of these shopping malls and that of any others in the world, is the size. Have you ever been to a three story Chanel Store? How about two that were in the same shopping Centre. Yes, I am not fabricating this, two three story Chanel stores within a block of each other. This went for every major brand as well, from Louis Vuitton, to Prada, Celine, Valentino, Hermes, and Saint Laurent. It was paradise and torture all at the same time. Making my way from the ION to Bay Sands shopping mall, I was welcomed with the sight of a little Venice. On the ground floor of the mall, there was a little river that had gondolas taking shoppers around the mall- that’s how ginormous the mall is!!!! Little island restaurants dotted the river, each on having its own space and separation from the rest of the busy mall.

IMG_5255

When I thought it couldn’t get any better, as I was peering at a three story Chanel, Gucci, and Prada, I saw the one and only, Louis Vuitton Island. Yes, the Louis Vuitton store had an escalator from the mall, underwater to the designer island. Of course, this was my first stop, like a little kid in a candy store for the first time. The store itself was magnificent, it had a full floor for each department and even a museum. They could stamp your bags and luggage on the spot and they were ready in under five minutes. I decided to splurge of the classic, Never Full bag. I mean your not always on a Louis Vuitton Island, are you? I got it stamped with my initials and they even let me do it myself- well he got it lined up but I did the stamping part!;)
IMG_5312
I knew this shopping mall was going to upscale, so I wanted to dress up a little more than I usually do. So of course, when in need, pull out a black romper. That’s the saying right?

Get Your Badge (in Leather)

Dear Fashionistas,

Do you know what the warm Hong Kong weather means? Yes, I get to pull out all my long, summery dresses out of their hibernation in the back of my closet all year! For a stroll around downtown and a casual dinner out, I went with this comfy, red maxi dress. I edged this simple look up with this new graphic, leather jacket from Zara. It was perfect fit with the red patches and badges and tied the look together. I never had considered pairing leather with a maxi dress, but I loved the combination. It just proves again to always go with your gut when choosing your look. If my first instinct tells me something would look good with that, I always at least try it on, and 9/10 times that’s what I end up wearing. Experimenting is one of the most fun parts about fashion for me.

With a Blink of an Eye

The atmosphere in Hong Kong at night is so wild! Full of energy, it is definitely a hustling-bustling environment similar to New York City. The sky scrapers here advertise on the side of their buildings- the letters and/or symbols run up all sides of the towers. This makes the city brilliantly lit up at night! Across the street from my hotel, the Four Seasons Hong Kong, is the Ritz Carlton hotel (most of the floors are occupied by various businesses and companies though) which is over a hundred stories high! Every night they run words and usually cartoons advertising something or other, all over the front and sides of the building, how awesome! Each night the images change, so it’s always such a cool surprise to see what is being showed. Apart from the extremely gigantic buildings, another attribute to Hong Kong’s vibrant personality is the traffic. Although you imagine a city this big having nightmarish traffic, it is surprisingly very efficient. Now that doesn’t mean that it is a safe, regulated process. No, my cab rides consist of covering my eyes and bracing myself. I do not know how the locals are so calm when four cars try to jam into one lane, at the same time, with two double decker buses coming on either side. Crazy! Speaking of the crazy cabs, to get these pictures, I saw my life flash before my eyes as I was standing in the middle of the street;) But seriously you can even see a cab coming straight for me!

I love this little two piece set from the new Kendall and Kylie collection. The shorts are a little oversized, which I prefer since the top doesn’t cover that much up there, lol. The frayed edges just give it a summery, chic vibe. I matched this casual set with some of my favorite platform sneakers, my Louis Vuitton crossbody bag, and my new Dior ‘So Real’ sunglasses. (It was light out when I left the hotel, but you can totally wear your sunnies at night, right?)

The Hong Kong Trifecta

Dear Fashionistas,

Traveling around Asia has been such an amazing, out of the box experience. Our trip has been filled with many new sights, sounds, and definitely new food! After spending a week in Shanghai, we hopped over to Hong Kong. Hong Kong is cosmopolitan like New York City but also has the beautiful topography of San Fransico. This sky-scraper studded city winds through mountains and faces the South China Sea. So not only do I get to see the lit up, sky grazing architecture of the city, I also get great views of all the mountains and the third largest harbour in the world (Victoria Harbour), from my hotel room window!! I love leaving my blinds open all night and waking up to the already busy harbour and the mountains blanketed by the morning fog. It’s become my ritual to end my nights looking out at the same breathtaking view before getting in some coveted beauty sleep.

Here’s my morning toast with an overcast and “toasty” Hong Kong in the background! 😉

Perfect end to my evening from the other day. I might be sleepy but I’ll never get tired of this view!

We spent our first full day taking in this vibrant city, with lots of sight-seeing and shopping. Our first stop was Stanley Plaza. It is a huge market filled with local vendors but also has a modern, international mall right next door. The side streets are lined with little cafes and restuarants that neighbor the sea.

We speant the majority of our time navigating through the local stalls, browsing the hand-made jewelry, paintings, and clothing. Then we went to the other side of the Plaza, by the little cafes and eateries, to the shopping area.

We shopped around for a bit, of course, I had to make a quick stop in H&M! After shopping at Stanley, we went to the prime district for people who are looking to go bankrupt in Hong Kong- Landmark luxury shopping mall. Huge Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Saint Laurent, Armani, Versace, Hermes, Gucci, and Dolce and Gabana boilstered their colorful, grand store entrances over the stretch of Landmarks various towers. Each window blew me away, every store had their own look. Chanel launched their “hotel” themed campaign, which used a lot of black and white shades. Louis Vuitton launched their Series #5 campaign which features a dark take on jet-set travel. So tons of new luggage, small crossbody bags, and backpacks were taking over the displays. The Louis Vuitton Hong Kong was perhaps the coolest one I’ve ever been in, it had a three story set up with these awesome stairs leading from platform to platform.

I almost got dizzy every time I climbed up and down these crazy things!

Since I knew I would be walking around the streets of this busy, fast paced city, I made sure to wear sneakers to not slow me down. I went with polished, black and white tones (I didn’t even plan matching with Chanel;)); with black denim shorts, white tee, and a dark, fitted blazer. My Dior ‘So Real’ mirrored sunnies and Prada  crossbody were the perfect finishing touches.

Asia Adventure: Take 1

Dear Fashionistas,

I have never been to Asia before this past week (except for Maldives, if that’s in Asia?). Shanghai was my first Chinese city experience and it was nothing like I expected. Back in the US, we are so used to space, our own language, and especially our own food. There is a reason we love our country and that’s because we can stay inside our little boxes and never really have to branch out. Shanghai was definitely stepping out of the box for me, but not in a negative way at all. I got to see and talk to so many different people. Sometimes it was hard to communicate, (I did have to play charades a few times), but other than a few times, everyone was welcoming and spoke English to me as best they could. Even if their English was barely passable or not even understandable, I still appreciated the effort; I mean if they came to the States would I be trying out my Chinese on them? That’s one thing that I believe us Americans are so deprived of is learning how to communicate with other cultures and people, since everyone caters to us (me included in my 3rd grade level Spanish). Shanghai’s downtown area was way different from any city I had ever been too. If you multiply New York City by three and make every building over 40 stories high, that’s Shanghai. I’ve never been to a city this gigantic before, 30 million people!!!! That was such a cool experience. I used to think LA of New York real estate was expensive, but 2-3,00 $$$ a square meter? That’s about 1-2 million every thousand square feet. There are just so many people, that the cost of living is so much greater.

I took this picture from my hotel window, below you see some of the nicest town houses and apartments. No big backyards there! As high as the cost of living is though, the communities do as best they can to keep everyone afloat. Like the restuarants- we went our to one of the nicest in the city and ordered for eight really hungry people, 10 not-so hungry. We ended up buying dinner for 20% of what it would have been back home. Now the food was a struggle at first. I was a little terrorized with knowing the stereotypical Chinese meal of fried dog and cat for dinner, but this was never the case. Luckily I never saw a dog or cat on a menu or that manager would have had a big problem;) The hardest part was just learning what everything was, but once I found the things I liked, I thought the food was great. My favorites were frittatas for breakfast and some devilish   little donuts that were way to enticing. For lunch was normally some type of dim sum- a Shanghainese specialty. Little steamed buns with filling inside. Spinach, mixed vegetable, chicken, and spicy crab were my favorites.

Dinner was always pretty American since we stayed at such a Western hotel. Whenever there is a Four Seasons establishment I always stay there, ever since I was a little girl. The thing that probably shocked me the most about Shnaghai was the cleanliness. I was expecting with 30+ million that the streets would be lined with trash. But every public place, restuarant, hotel, and even most of the streets were close to spotless. A lot of things really took me by surprise, especially the parks. The public parks are beautiful, about every sport field or court is in peak condition. My favorite part about Shanghai had to be that breathtaking skyline. I could stare at the urban area for hours, night or day! One of the most beautiful views we had was when we went to Lost Heaven for dinner. The vibe was like vinatge Chinese meets the glitz and glam of the 20s, with its velvet couches and four story, temple like structure.

The rooftop bar was amazing and was in the center of the city!! It couldn’t have gotten any better. For such an awesome day and night out, full of shopping the Chinese markets-

to an extravagant Chinese dinner, my first experiences in Shanghai were unbelievable inspiring. I became so into the culture and the language- I now can say thank you, hello, and how are you all in Mandarin! I would definitely go back to Shanghai in a heartbeat.

Now down to business (is fashion even budiness, it’s too fun to be). I have been a fan of the brand Style Stalker for a few years now! It’s one of the only brands that fit my petite physique perfectly, everytime. Colorful prints and vibrant colors are always in for the warmer weathered months, so a Style Stalker romper is one of my go-to’s. For a sweltering, sightseeing filled day in Shanghai, I wore this tropical, royal blue and white floral onsie. With its mostly open back and sleeveless arms, it made walking around the huge, 80% humidity city such a breeze. I added some Ray-Ban sunnies, that coincidencently had these awesome polarized blue lenses! I knew I was going to be walking a ton, welcome to a city with 30 million people- you would think traffic couldn’t get any more nightmarish then LA or New York right? WRONG!!!! So I copped out of wearing the cute stilettos I had originally planned on, and threw on my steady white and cork wedges. Of course I had to have a pop of pink, so I carried around my chevron Yves Saint Laurent crossbody.

I hope you all get the chance to visit Shanghia! More to come of my Asia adventure. Zàijiàn!

Love,

Your Secret Admirer
